Christopher Graham Fatal in Highway 99 Pedestrian Crash in Modesto
Modesto, CA (July 7, 2023) – Christopher Graham (27) of Paso Robles succumbed to fatal injuries after being involved in a Highway 99 pedestrian crash. According to ABC10, the crash occurred around 11:30 p.m. on Thursday.
Christopher Graham succumbed to his injuries after being involved in a Highway 99 pedestrian crash.
The California Highway Patrol responded to a Highway 99 pedestrian crash south of Pelandale Avenue involving a driver and a male pedestrian.
The male pedestrian was identified as 27-year-old Christopher Graham from Paso Robles by the Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office.
According to the report, Graham was driving a 2022 Toyota southbound. However, he made an unsafe lane change and collided with a woman driving a Volvo in the next lane.
Consequently, the Volvo driver, a 60-year-old Modesto woman, lost control of her vehicle. It traveled off the highway, crashed through a cyclone fence, and finally came to rest on parallel railroad tracks.
Fortunately, she sustained only minor injuries and was taken to a hospital.
Despite the crash, Graham attempted to flee the scene by continuing to drive south. However, his vehicle became disabled about half a mile away.
Graham then exited his vehicle and resorted to desperate measures to stop motorists, waving his arms and even throwing rocks, according to Officer Tom Olsen.
Ignoring the danger, Graham walked into the slow lane, directly into the path of a Chevrolet pickup. Unfortunately, Graham was struck by the pickup and died at the scene of the crash.
Meanwhile, the 51-year-old driver of the Chevrolet pickup remained uninjured.
J&M Tip: Because pedestrian accidents have been on the rise, it’s imperative for vehicle drivers to prioritize the safety of all road users at all times. This involves adhering to traffic regulations and rules, being extremely mindful, and acknowledging and anticipating unexpected occurrences.

More About Pedestrian Accident Liability
Pedestrians usually get major injuries in pedestrian accidents. Sometimes, they can even cause death. When it comes to liability, it can fall on the pedestrian or driver based on various factors of the accident. Proving liability can become vague or obvious. The process generally involves finding out who acted carelessly, causing the accident. Any Los Angeles personal injury or accident lawyer will tell you that you need to show the following to prove negligence and liability:
- legal responsibility or “duty of care”
- violated or breached the duty of care
- the violation caused the accident
- the violation resulted in injuries or damages
In some cases, the driver might’ve sped down the road, hitting the pedestrian. This can put fault on the driver. Meanwhile, pedestrians can get hit by a car because they acted against traffic signals, such as jaywalking. In these instances, the pedestrian can become at fault. Other factors, such as lack of road markings and ample lighting, can also lead to pedestrian accidents. In these cases, a pedestrian accident lawyer can help look at all angles to determine liability. Learn more about pedestrian accident lawyers in California here. Indeed, no amount of money can ever make up for the injuries or death left by an accident caused by someone else. However, receiving the maximum settlement and winning a judgment can give a sense of justice. Also, it can offer some peace of mind, so you can fully heal and recover.
