A woman in a wheelchair succumbed to fatal injuries after a Rialto hit-and-run crash.
The Rialto Police Department responded to a fatal hit-and-run crash involving a car and a pedestrian on West Foothill Boulevard at the 1400 block. When the police arrived, they found that the driver of the suspect vehicle had fled the scene.
The Rialto Fire Department transported the injured pedestrian to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center. Unfortunately, she succumbed to her injuries.
At this time, the identity of the victim has not been made public.
Initial investigations reveal that the suspect was driving eastbound on Foothill Boulevard near Cedar Avenue. The pedestrian, who was in a wheelchair, was in the lanes of traffic on Foothill.
According to the authorities, the suspect’s vehicle hit the pedestrian outside of a marked crosswalk and then left without stopping.
However, they eventually identified Justin Thompson as a suspect. Thompson, a 28-year-old resident of Rialto, was arrested on July 21 at the 100 block of Willow Avenue.
The police took Thompson into custody and booked him at the West Valley Detention Center on suspicion of causing a deadly hit-and-run and driving without a license. Thompson was released after posting bond.
They later found the vehicle allegedly involved in the hit-and-run near Thompson’s home in Rialto.
The police stated that there is currently no reason to believe that Thompson was under the influence of drugs or alcohol while driving.
