Rosie Lee Mayes and David Isaac Robbins Fatal in Head-on Collision on Highway 33 in Merced County
Merced County, CA (July 25, 2023) – Rosie Lee Mayes (75) and David Isaac Robbins (18) were identified as the fatalities in a head-on collision on Highway 33 in Merced County. According to Merced Sun-Star, the crash occurred at 9:45 p.m. on Thursday.

The California Highway Patrol responded to a head-on collision along Highway 33 south of Christian Avenue involving two vehicles.
The Merced County Sheriff Coroner’s Office identified the two drivers killed in the collision as Rosie Lee Mayes, aged 75, and David Isaac Robbins, aged 18, both of Dos Palos.
According to the police, Mayes drove a 2015 Nissan southward on Highway 33 at an unknown speed.
On the other hand, Robbins drove a 2020 Honda northward on the same highway at an unknown speed south of Christian Avenue, possibly overtaking another vehicle.
An investigation revealed that the Honda may have been in the southbound lane. Furthermore, there were indications that the Nissan’s headlights may not have been activated.
The collision resulted in a head-on impact between the two vehicles, killing both drivers.
The CHP ruled out drugs or alcohol as contributing factors to the collision.
