Merced, CA (September 6, 2023) – A Merced hit-and-run crash left a female pedestrian with fatal injuries. According to the Merced Sunstar, the officers responded at around 5:21 a.m. on Wednesday.

The Merced Police Department is investigating a fatal Merced hit-and-run crash that took place on R Street, between Loughborough Drive and Buena Vista Drive.
In a statement from Merced Police Sgt. Nathan McKinnon, they found a woman lying in the roadway.
As officers arrived on the scene, they discovered the woman’s injuries consistent with those sustained from a vehicle impact.
The victim was initially found by passing motorists, who then contacted the police.
Unfortunately, despite paramedics’ attempts to save her life, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
McKinnon stated that she had not been close to a crosswalk at the time of the accident, and her reason for being in the roadway remains unclear.
Meanwhile, it is believed that the vehicle responsible was traveling south on R Street.
Authorities are now gathering footage from nearby surveillance cameras to identify the suspect vehicle, with McKinnon revealing that initial reports suggest a full-size pickup truck may be involved.
