I-8 DUI Crash Severely Injured a Three-Year-Old Boy and Caused Minor Injuries to Four Other Passengers
San Diego, CA (September 24, 2023) – An I-8 DUI crash injured a three-year-old boy and four other young passengers after their vehicle overturned. Authorities also arrested the driver suspected of DUI. According to ABC 10 News San Diego, the accident occurred around 6:30 p.m. on Saturday.

An I-8 DUI crash left a 3-year-old boy seriously injured and four other minors moderately injured on Qualcomm Way. Authorities also arrested a man on DUI charges following the collision.
According to California Highway Patrol Officer Salvador Castro, the incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. on a Saturday when a 26-year-old man drove a green Ford Expedition on the Qualcomm Way on-ramp to I-8 west.
Moreover, seven passengers were in the vehicle; five minors were under 18.
For reasons still under investigation, the Ford overturned during the crash, resulting in the ejection of the 3-year-old from the vehicle.
First responders then transported the young boy and the four other juveniles to Rady’s Children Hospital for treatment. Unfortunately, the 3-year-old sustained the most severe injuries, while the others had various injuries.
During the initial investigation, officers determined that alcohol or drugs likely played a role in the accident, leading to the immediate arrest of the driver.
