John Ortiz Killed in a Fresno County Hit-and-Run Crash After a Vehicle Struck a Pickup Truck
Fresno County, CA (December 14, 2023) – John Ortiz (77) of Selma succumbed to fatal injuries in a Fresno County hit-and-run crash after a vehicle hit a pickup truck. Police are also looking for the driver involved in the crash. According to ABC30, the accident occurred at around 3:00 p.m. on Monday.

John Ortiz, a 77-year-old Selma resident, succumbed to fatal injuries after a vehicle struck their pickup truck and eventually fled in a Fresno County hit-and-run crash.
The incident occurred earlier this week when John’s wife drove their pickup truck south on Highway 99.
The California Highway Patrol believes a driver in a Chrysler 200 sedan either drifted or attempted to change lanes, resulting in a collision with the truck.
Additionally, according to CHP Officer Mike Sales, the pickup truck lost control and veered into the center divider.
As a result, two of those vehicle occupants sustained injuries and were transported to a local hospital.
Unfortunately, John Ortiz, who was the passenger in the truck, succumbed to his injuries at CRMC.
Meanwhile, the driver of the Chrysler fled the scene and now faces felony hit-and-run charges.
John Ortiz, who had recently triumphed over cancer, was on his way home from his last round of chemotherapy. He would have celebrated his 78th birthday on Christmas Day.
Moreover, the CHP is actively investigating this Fresno County hit-and-run crash, resulting in the death of John Ortiz.
