An I-5 35-vehicle crash involving 17 private vehicles and 18 large trucks near Bakersfield killed two and injured nine others.
An I-5 35-vehicle crash on a foggy Southern California stretch resulted in two fatalities and nine injuries.
According to the authorities, the massive collision occurred Saturday morning at around 7:30, just west of Bakersfield.
Upon arrival at the scene, the crews faced visibility of merely 10 feet, said Kern County Fire Department spokesman Jim Calhoun.
Based on the report, the accident involved 17 private vehicles and 18 large trucks, spanning approximately half a mile.
Sadly, on-site response teams declared two people dead, while nine others received hospital treatment for minor injuries.
Meanwhile, Calhoun stated that the ruptured saddle tanks of the big rigs had released compressed natural gas.
As a result, uninjured bystanders attempting to help were found in a plume of natural gas, leading to immediate evacuation procedures.
Eventually, the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) announced that the southbound lanes would remain closed overnight.
They planned to use the closure to clear debris and determine the official cause of the catastrophic I-5 35-vehicle crash.
J&M Tip: Accidents involving numerous vehicles and trucks can create chaotic and distressing situations. In such scenarios, it is highly recommended to seek advice from a qualified car accident attorney.
