A John Wayne Airport crash sent a pilot and a passenger to the hospital after a plane crashed at the northeastern part of the field on Sunday.
The incident unfolded when a single-engine Harmony LSA landed on the runway’s northeast end and subsequently spun out, as revealed by Federal Aviation Administration spokesperson Rick Breitenfeldt.
FlightAware, a flight tracking website, indicated that the plane had conducted touch-and-go maneuvers at the airport. Touch-and-go landings involve touching down briefly on the runway before taking off again.
The aircraft had performed eight touch-and-gos and was preparing for a ninth landing when the incident occurred.
According to Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Larry Kurtz, firefighters had to extract one person from the aircraft while the other occupant managed to exit unassisted.
Both occupants, a 16-year-old boy and a 20-year-old woman, were hospitalized with their conditions undisclosed. However, it remained unclear who was piloting the plane at the time of the crash.
Moreover, the aircraft is registered under Rotor Notions Inc., owned by Yan Gendlin, who declined further comment.
Fortunately, this John Wayne airport crash did not disrupt commercial air traffic, confirmed Kurtz. Further details regarding the incident were not immediately available.
J&M Tip: If a plane crash occurs due to either a malfunctioning aircraft component or the pilot’s negligence, you can commence a personal injury lawsuit against the airline or the flight crew deemed accountable.
