San Diego, CA (May 9, 2024) – Tyjuan Mayfield (18) of Perris succumbed to fatal injuries after crashing into a tree and overturning in a Route 163 crash. According to The San Diego Union-Tribune, the crash happened about 4:00 a.m. on Sunday.

Tyjuan Mayfield, an 18-year-old Navy servicemember from Perris, died after a Route 163 crash near Mission Valley on Sunday, as confirmed by the San Diego Medical Examiner’s Office.
Reports from the Medical Examiner’s Office and California Highway Patrol indicate that Tyjuan Mayfield was traveling south through Linda Vista when the Nissan Maxima he was operating deviated from the freeway near Friars Road.
Then, the vehicle careened up an embankment, collided with a tree, and overturned.
Despite efforts by emergency responders, Mayfield, stationed at Naval Air Station North Island in Coronado, succumbed to his injuries at the crash site.
Authorities have also confirmed that he was ejected from the sedan during the incident.
