Types of Compensation Available After a Fairfield Solo Crash
Victims often assume that compensation only covers medical bills and vehicle repairs, but there’s much more you can claim following a car accident. Depending on the specifics of your incident, you may be entitled to various types of compensation:
Economic Damages: These encompass financial losses that can be documented with receipts and written records. Examples include:
- Medical Expenses: Covers hospital bills, medication, and ongoing treatment costs.
- Property Damage: Includes repair or replacement costs for your motorcycle and other damaged property.
- Lost Wages: Compensation for income lost due to inability to work.
- Future Income Loss: Covers the potential earnings you lose if you can’t return to your job.
- Out-of-Pocket Expenses: Any additional expenses directly related to the accident.
Non-Economic Damages: These refer to intangible losses that don’t have a direct monetary value. Examples include:
- Pain and Suffering: Compensation for physical pain endured due to the accident.
- Emotional Distress: Covers psychological impact, including anxiety and depression.
- Loss of Companionship: Compensation for the negative impact on relationships.
- Diminished Quality of Life: Accounts for changes in your lifestyle and activities.
- Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder: Compensation for ongoing mental health issues stemming from the crash.
Punitive Damages: These may be awarded in cases involving extreme recklessness, intentional misconduct, or malice by the at-fault party.
While economic damages are supported by documentation, assessing non-economic losses requires the expertise of a personal injury attorney. An experienced car accident lawyer can evaluate these intangible losses, ensure you receive maximum compensation, and determine if you qualify for punitive damages.
