Joan Rubalcava Killed in Fatal Multi-Vehicle Crash on Highway 99 in Merced
Merced, CA (February 24, 2022) – Joan Rubalcava (51) died in a collision on Highway 99 near Le Grand Road in Merced. According to Merced Sun-Star, the incident happened at around 7:41 pm on Wednesday.
According to the California Highway Patrol, Billy Cole (22) drove his 2006 Nissan Titan into the center divide for unknown reasons. Then, the Titan went across the median of Highway 99 and hit Rubalcava’s 2017 Honda Pilot on the southbound lane. The impact caused another collision with a 2019 Chevrolet Malibu driven by Carla Benavides (41).
Responders pronounced Joan Rubalcava dead at the scene.
Rubalcava died at the scene. Meanwhile, responders took Cole and Benavides to separate hospitals for minor to moderate injuries. They took Cole to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto. Also, they transported Benavides to Mercy Medical Center.
According to authorities, drugs and alcohol didn’t seem to be factors in the incident. Right now, authorities are still investigating the case.
