17-year-old Sarahi Ramirez Killed in DUI Car Crash on Jensen and Marks Avenues in Fresno
Fresno, CA (March 20, 2022) – Fresno high school senior Sarahi Ramirez (17) died after her vehicle was hit by a DUI driver along Jensen and Marks avenues. According to ABC 30, the incident happened at around 8:30 pm on Friday.
The incident involved 25-year-old Michael Medoza, who was driving under the influence when he ran he ran a stop sign and later crashed into the GMC truck that Ramirez (17) was driving.
Though wearing her seatbelt, the t-bone crash’s impact was so intense that Ramirez still suffered critical injuries. She was brought to the Community Regional Medical Center, where she was later pronounced dead.
Sarahi Ramirez was wearing her seatbelt at the time of the accident but still suffered severe injuries.
On the other hand, Michael Mendoza (25) didn’t have a seatbelt on, causing him to eject from his vehicle. Mendoza was confirmed to be driving under the influence and was arrested for felony DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter. He is expected to transfer into the Fresno County Jail after receiving medical care at the hospital.
Mike Salas of the CHP said to ABC 30, “It proves the fact that drinking and driving causes some definite horrific, tragic incidents such as this – a young life lost.”
Family and friends of Ramirez placed flowers as well as candles at the scene of the accident to mourn her death. In fact, she was months away from graduating from the W.E.B. DuBois Public Charter School in Fresno.
