Kristy Klaus and Kayden Davis Killed in Car Crash at an Intersection in Lucerne Valley, CA
Lucerne Valley, CA (April 10, 2022) – Kristy Klaus (16) and Kayden Davis (16) both died in a car crash in Lucerne Valley. According to the Daily Press, the incident happened at around 9:00 pm on Friday.
According to authorities, the teenagers got into a crash at the State Route 247 and Camp Rock Road intersection. They haven’t identified the cause of the crash.
A spokesperson from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department shared with the Daily Press, “the call was handled by the California Highway Patrol, which didn’t respond to an inquiry about the cause of the collision or the identities of the drivers.”
Kristy Klaus and Kayden Davis were both sophomores in Lucerne Valley Middle/High School.
The teenagers’ peers remembered them as active participants in school and community activities. Hence, they held a vigil for the girls’ family and friends to celebrate their lives.
An online form was set up to get meals for each girl’s family. Stated in the online form, “let’s help these families worry about one less thing by preparing easy to reheat meals in their time of grief… Their hearts are heavy, and anything would be appreciated.”
President of the Lucerne Valley Unified School District Board of Trustees Jessica Risler and Pastor Gary Schlenz of Crossroads Chapel Foursquare Church took the lead in prayer. The girls’ classmates also made signed posters showing their condolences.
The crash’s site was less than a mile away from the site of another incident which killed three girls. “This makes child number four and five in less than a year for us,” Risler shared.
Lucerne Valley Unified School District Peter Livingston shared, “we’ve got crisis response teams coming out on Monday to support the kids with professional counselors.” He added, “they promised to be there as long as we need them as a community.”
According to Livingston, both girls were active in their high school’s sports clubs, including both the volleyball and basketball teams.
Kristy Klaus and Kayden Davis were also involved in the drama club and other extracurricular activities.
According to the Daily Press, their basketball team recently received awards for its perfect record in the latest Agape League season and its first league championship in six seasons.
Livingston said, “I sent an email out to the school staff and I said, the community needs us and we need the community right now.”
“Based upon what we’ve done with each other before, I’m confident we’ll all be there for each other,” he added.
So far, the California Highway Patrol is still investigating the accident and further information is unavailable.
