Ian Rutledge Killed in Two-Vehicle Crash in Winchester of Riverside County
Winchester, CA (May 5, 2022) – Ian Rutledge (23) died in a two-vehicle accident on state Route 79 south of Patterson Avenue in Winchester. According to Patch, the incident happened at around 1:20 pm on Tuesday (May 3).
According to the California Highway Patrol, Rutledge drove his BMW northbound on Highway 79 at a high speed. Then, he tried traversing the left curve on the road. This caused him to totally lose control of his BMW.
Ian Rutledge lost control of his BMW and collided with a Toyota pickup.
Meanwhile, a 44-year-old male driver of a Toyota pickup from San Bernardino was driving southbound on the same highway at around 50 to 60 mph. The BMW’s right side crashed into the pickup’s front, killing Rutledge at the scene.
On the other hand, the pickup’s driver sustained only minor injuries. Responders transported him to a local hospital for medical care. Afterwards, the CHP closed southbound on Highway 79 to make way for investigation.
CHP San Gorgonio Pass Area office also shared with Patch, “driving at an unsafe speed is the leading cause of crashes in our area. Drive to arrive.” If you have any additional information about this accident, you can contact CHP Public Information Officer Jason Montez at 951-769-2000 ext. 221.

More About Car Accident Liability
Various circumstances of the car accident can pinpoint the liability of damages. In some instances, thorough investigations can reveal careless behavior. This can include the simple act of recklessly turning or cutting in front of another vehicle. In terms of determining who is at fault for an accident, this can be defined by common law. Any Sacramento or Los Angeles car accident lawyer recognizes that fault has four basic levels:
- Negligence
- Recklessness (wanton conduct)
- Intentional misconduct
- Strict liability
However, different state laws can have variations of applicable traffic laws. For example, in some states, multiple drivers can be liable for an accident. This is why thorough investigations are important after a car accident. Having a strong case showing the liability to the at-fault party can help guarantee your compensation. Likewise, a car crash attorney can also help you determine all your options, so you can fully recover from the accident. Learn more about car accident lawyers in California here.
