Maria Belen Polanco and One Other Victim Died in a Hit-and-Run Accident in Los Angeles
Los Angeles, CA (May 22, 2023) – A hit-and-run accident in Los Angeles resulted in two fatalities, where one victim was identified as Maria Belen Polanco (20). According to KTLA, the crash occurred in Exposition Park around 12:30 a.m. on Monday.

According to the reports, a speeding vehicle struck a young couple in a BMW, including 20-year-old Maria Belen Polanco, at 3998 S. Normandie Ave. near the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.
Police said that the young couple was coming from a drive-thru restaurant when a Jeep driver going at 80 to 90 mph, hit the BMW.
Authorities also mentioned that the impact of the crash caused the BMW to hit other parked vehicles across the roadway.
Unfortunately, the two victims died at the scene.
After causing the casualty, the speeding driver tried to leave the accident scene on foot.
According to LAPD Det. Ryan Moreno, “After the collision, the driver fled immediately on foot. There were witnesses that basically gave chase, followed him, which ultimately led to him being taken into custody.”
Based on witness testimonies, officials are investigating whether the speeding driver participated in a street takeover nearby before the collision.
Police are still determining the use of alcohol as a factor in this hit-and-run accident in Los Angeles.
