They transported a man in his 40s to a local hospital. He then had to undergo emergency surgery for severe injuries.
The victim, now identified as Silvino Gomez, reportedly remains in critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit.
According to LAPD, Gomez was crossing Central and Vernon Avenues when a speeding driver ran a red light and violently struck him.
In a security footage made public by the LAPD, it showed that the hit was so extreme that it propelled and flipped Gomez into the air before he struck his head.
Furthermore, authorities confirmed that the pedestrian had a ‘walk signal’ and the right-of-way during the crash.
Oscar Rodriguez, a friend of Gomez, mentioned, “He’s the only support to the family. So as of right now, his wife is wondering what she is going to do because he is the only one that brings income to the house. He’s such an honest, hardworking guy. It’s unacceptable what’s happened to him.”
Meanwhile, detectives are reaching out to the public who witnessed this horrific hit-and-run in South Los Angeles.
They described the suspect vehicle as a dark-colored sedan with damage on the hood, front end, and possibly on the windshield.
