Pomona, CA (July 3, 2023) – One victim succumbed to their injuries after being involved in a 71 Freeway DUI crash in Pomona. Four people also incurred injuries from the collision. According to CBS News, the accident occurred around 10 p.m. on Sunday.

A suspected drunk driver is in custody after a tragic 71 Freeway DUI crash in Pomona, resulting in one fatality and four injured victims.
According to the Pomona Police Department, a flatbed tow truck heading northbound on SR-71 jumped the center barrier into oncoming southbound traffic after being hit by another vehicle.
Unfortunately, the tow truck slammed into a family in a minivan traveling south on the highway. The minivan driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
A Los Angeles County Fire Department dispatcher also said paramedics took four other injured victims to the hospital.
Meanwhile, authorities arrested 33-year-old Mark Shoemate of Aliso Viejo on charges of vehicular manslaughter and intoxicated driving.
