Alberto Guerrero Covarrubias died at the scene of a Merced County crash on Highway 152 at Turner Island Road in Dos Palos.
The Merced County Sheriff’s Coroner’s Office officially identified the individual who lost their life in a Merced County crash on Highway 152.
They revealed the driver’s identity as Alberto Guerrero Covarrubias, 26.
According to Deputy Alexandra Britton, the incident occurred on Tuesday around 5:30 a.m. in the vicinity of Highway 152 and Turner Island Road. The California Highway Patrol swiftly responded to the collision.
Preliminary investigations suggest that Covarrubias was driving a 2003 Honda Accord southbound on Turner Island Road when, for unknown reasons, he failed to heed a posted stop sign at the intersection with Highway 152.
At the same time, a 38-year-old Merced woman driving a 2020 Buick Encore headed west on Highway 152. Despite her efforts, she failed to avoid the collision.
The Buick impacted the driver’s side of the Honda. Tragically, Covarrubias succumbed to fatal injuries at the accident scene.
Meanwhile, responders brought the Buick driver and a 12-year-old passenger to a Modesto hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
Authorities confirm that all individuals in the vehicle correctly used their seatbelts.
Moreover, the investigation into this Merced County crash remains ongoing, and they have ruled out the involvement of drugs or alcohol in the accident.
J&M Tip: Failing to yield at a stop sign can lead to dangerous collisions and jeopardize the safety of all road users. Crashes due to a driver’s traffic violation may lead to personal injury claims.
