Three Student Pedestrians Suffered Serious Injuries While Walking Home From School in an Antioch Car Crash
Antioch, CA (September 17, 2022) – An Antioch car accident injured five, including three student pedestrians. According to ABC 7, the crash happened at around 3:21 pm on Friday.
Three students suffered severe injuries in an Antioch car accident on Sycamore Drive and Manzanita Way.
According to police, a red Chevrolet Impala and a tan Mercury Mystique collided and hit three students walking home from school at Sycamore Drive and Manzanita Way.
Witnesses shared with authorities that the Impala ran at high speed before the crash. Responders arrived at the scene and found the three students in serious condition.
They immediately provided emergency medical care and airlifted them to various area hospitals. Meanwhile, they also flew the Impala’s driver to a hospital for major injuries.
The Mystique’s driver showed no serious injuries but went to the hospital to get examined. Right now, the Antioch authorities are investigating the crash.
The three students were identified as siblings. Their mother Jami Christina Marie Hanlin shared an update to KRON 4, saying that she feels helpless yet stays “as strong as I can for all my kids.”
One of the children, Mason, suffered fewer grave injuries and is doing well after receiving surgery for facial abrasions. He is still recovering and is also dealing with emotional anguish because of the incident.
Hanlin’s daughter Cheyenne is also recovering. According to Hanlin, she’s physically stable after waking up from her coma and having her ventilator removed. She stated, “she continues to heal, but [is] sleeping most of the time.” Hanlin also shared with KRON 4 that her daughter will be checked for brain damage later on.
Hanlin also shared that her third child, Gianathon, sustained the most severe injuries. So far, he has only momentarily opened his eyes on Monday without gaining full consciousness. She said to KRON 4, “if he does survive he will be paralyzed from the neck down and will need to be on a ventilator for the rest of his life. That is a lot for a 12-year-old boy that has been so full of life.”
Hanlin also said, “emotions are high and disagreements have developed. I pray that we all can come together as a family and heal these kids, that should be our first concern.”

More About Car Accident Liability
Various circumstances of the car accident can pinpoint the liability of damages. In some instances, thorough investigations can reveal careless behavior. This can include the simple act of recklessly turning or cutting in front of another vehicle. In terms of determining who is at fault for an accident, this can be defined by common law. Any Sacramento or Los Angeles car accident lawyer recognizes that fault has four basic levels:
- Negligence
- Recklessness (wanton conduct)
- Intentional misconduct
- Strict liability
However, different state laws can have variations of applicable traffic laws. For example, in some states, multiple drivers can be liable for an accident. This is why thorough investigations are important after a car accident. A strong case showing the at-fault party’s liability can help guarantee your compensation. Likewise, a car crash attorney can also help you determine all your options, so you can fully recover from the accident. Learn more about car accident lawyers in California here.
