Reportedly, the collision occurred in the 6800 block of North Topanga Canyon Boulevard, near where it intersects with Vanowen Street.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the two drivers were racing in the southbound lanes.
Subsequently, the Mercedes-Benz hit the Toyota, leading the latter’s driver to lose control and smash into a pole.
Footage from the scene showed the intensity of the impact, which nearly cut the car in half.
However, the authorities did not provide a detailed description of the driver who fled the scene.
Only the deceased driver’s age, in his 20s, was disclosed. Meanwhile, his identity is being held until his family is notified.
