Captain Derrin Austin Died in a Motorcycle Accident in Escondido
Escondido, CA (May 17, 2023) – Captain Derrin Austin (55) was identified as the fatality in a motorcycle accident in Escondido. According to CBS8, the crash occurred around 10 p.m. on May 14.
Captain Derrin Austin suffered fatal injuries in a motorcycle accident in Escondido.
The San Diego-Fire Rescue Department publicly announced the death of a 32-year veteran captain in the department who was involved in a motorcycle accident last week in the 600 block of North Escondido Boulevard.
They identified the victim as 55-year-old Captain Derrin Austin.
According to Lt. Ryan Banks of Escondido Police Department, responding officers performed CPR on Captain Austin at the accident scene.
The authorities then brought him to Palomar Medical Center.
Unfortunately, he was later pronounced dead due to his injuries from the crash.
Captain Derrin Austin dedicated 32 years of his life to serving the people of San Diego, both residents and visitors alike.
According to a Facebook post of SDFD, “Derrin joined the SDFD in October 1990 and was promoted to captain in 2002. His most recent assignment was at the San Diego International Airport Fire Station. His career assignments include station 12 in Lincoln Park, station 32 in Paradise Hills, the Training Division, the dispatch center, and the HAZMAT team.”
SDFD and the family of Fire Captain Derrin Austin organized a memorial event, but specific information about the ceremony was not initially disclosed.
