According to the report, Rivera, who was heading home from his children’s swimming practice, stopped and parked his vehicle at the intersection of Park Drive and Stanford Ranch Boulevard when he saw a family of ducks trying to cross the road.
As he attempted to help the animals, a young driver going eastbound on Stanford Ranch Boulevard hit him.
The 41-year-old driver sustained fatal injuries that caused his death.
After the crash, the intersection was temporarily closed for an investigation until 2 a.m.
Police then cleared and opened the intersection on Friday.
Moreover, the adolescent driver has not been taken into custody.
