Celene Reducindo and Maria Hernandez Killed in Car Crash near Santa Margarita of San Luis Obispo County
San Luis Obispo County, CA (April 17, 2022) – Celene Reducindo (47) and Maria Hernandez (54) died after getting involved in a crash on Highway 101 near Santa Barbara Road in San Luis Obispo County. According to the San Luis Obispo Tribune, the crash happened at around 8:00 pm on Saturday.
According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), Reducindo and Hernandez rode as passengers in Berenice Cortez Pineda’s (47) vehicle along with two others. Then, Pineda pulled over near the Santa Barbara Road off-ramp around the highway’s shoulder. Felipe Gonzalez (21) then drove fast beyond the 65-mph speed limit, causing him to lose control of his vehicle. Gonzales swerved into the highway’s shoulder and hit Pineda’s car.
Celene Reducindo and Maria Hernandez died after a vehicle crashed into the car they were riding.
Both Reducindo and Hernandez died after the crash. Meanwhile, Pineda’s other two passengers Mia Peralta (3) and Ricardo Gonzalez (48) sustained severe injuries.
According to the CHP, authorities arrested Gonzalez after the crash. They also transported him to Twin Cities Community Hospital in Templeton after he sustained minor injuries. At the moment, CHP believes that alcohol was a factor in the crash.
CHP reports state that they don’t know why Pineda pulled over into the highway’s shoulder. Pineda’s vehicle reportedly caught fire and emanated smoke. Also, three of the four passengers in Pineda’s vehicle didn’t wear their seatbelts. The lane where the crash happened was closed and later reopened at midnight.
