A Chino Airport plane crash killed Yanks Air Museum’s COO Frank Wright and Pilot-in-Command Michael “Mike” Gilles.
A Chino Airport plane crash claimed the lives of two pilots aboard a vintage World War II-era aircraft after it crashed and burst into flames.
Authorities identified the deceased pilots as Frank Wright, Chief Operating Officer, and Michael “Mike” Gilles, Pilot-in-Command, both prominent members of the Yanks Air Museum.
According to the museum’s Instagram post, the crash occurred during the Yanks Air Pops & Props event. However, it remains unclear if the plane was part of the event.
Firefighters arrived swiftly, extinguishing the flames within 10 minutes and discovering the bodies of Wright and Gilles.
Moreover, Gilles, a resident of Aliso Viejo, had piloted the Lockheed 12A Electra Junior for Yanks for several years. On the day of the crash, he occupied the left pilot seat, with Wright assisting from the right, even though only one rated pilot was required for the flight.
Meanwhile, friends identified Wright following the accident, and eyewitnesses noted that both men had participated in a panel discussion at the museum shortly before the crash.
In response, the museum announced a temporary closure to cooperate with authorities in investigating this Chico Airport plane crash.
Furthermore, the cause of the crash remains unknown, with the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board conducting investigations.
J&M Tip: An aircraft crash can result from a component going bad or a negligent pilot. In such situations, you may file a lawsuit against the airline or the flight crew that caused your injury.
