Rohnert Park, CA (November 8, 2023) – Christopher Thomas (43) of Rohnert Park succumbed to injuries after a SMART train hit him on Golf Course Drive near the intersection of Commerce Boulevard. According to Patch, the police received reports about the crash at around 7:38 p.m. on Thursday.

Christopher Thomas, a 43-year-old Rohnert Park transient, died after colliding with a SMART train on Golf Course Drive near Commerce Boulevard, according to the Sonoma County Sheriff-Coroner’s Office.
A concerned bystander placed the emergency call, informing dispatch that a pedestrian had been struck by the SMART train, said Rohnert Park DPS Lt. Matt Snodgrass.
Upon arrival, officers discovered the lifeless body of the man, later identified as Christopher Thomas, on the road.
Moreover, the investigation involved multiple agencies, including Rohnert Park DPS, the Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit District, and the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office.
“At the time of the collision, it appeared the crossing gates were down, the red lights were flashing, and the warning bells and train horns were operational and functioning as designed,” Snodgrass noted.
Furthermore, no information has been released regarding whether there were any indications of Thomas intentionally being on the train tracks.
