The investigation revealed that a 32-year-old Prather man driving a Tesla Model Y traveled eastbound on Highway 168 and drifted into the oncoming lane for unknown reasons.
Unfortunately, the Tesla collided head-on with a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by a 59-year-old Prather resident, and eventually caught fire.
As a result, the Tesla driver died at the accident scene, while the Chevy driver sustained significant but non-life-threatening injuries.
Responders then subsequently transported the surviving driver to a hospital in the Fresno area.
Moreover, Caltrans had to close both the eastbound and westbound lanes of Highway 168 near the vicinity of 168 and Shepherd.
