Bakersfield, CA (February 22, 2024) – A Columbus Street hit-and-run at the intersection of Columbus and Rice streets left a 37-year-old male pedestrian dead. According to KGET, the crash happened at around 9:29 p.m. on Wednesday.

According to the Bakersfield Police Department, the fatal collision occurred at the intersection of Columbus and Rice streets, where the driver of a dark sedan was traveling eastbound in the 2500 block of Columbus Street and collided with the 32-year-old pedestrian walking northbound in an unmarked crosswalk.
Upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered the pedestrian deceased in the middle of the road.
Meanwhile, the vehicle’s driver fled the scene before officials arrived. The Coroner’s office will release the pedestrian’s identity at a later time.
