Mendocino County, CA (October 29, 2023) – Vaughan Wesley Porter (54) of North Highland, Utah, and Jaime Danielle Rust (51) of Payson, Utah died in a Covelo plane crash near the Round Valley Airport. According to Lake County News, the accident occurred on October 20.

A Covelo plane crash left Vaughan Wesley Porter, 54, of North Highland, Utah, and Jaime Danielle Rust, 51, of Payson, Utah, dead after crashing near Round Valley Airport on October 20.
The Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office has identified the fatally injured couple through dental record comparisons.
Moreover, this Covelo plane crash occurred in the 21000 block of Airport Road in Covelo when, upon arrival at the scene, deputies and firefighters discovered the aircraft engulfed in flames, with the fire extending into the surrounding vegetation.
Following the successful containment of the fire, authorities found the bodies of the victims during the search of the debris field.
Additionally, preliminary information from the National Transportation Safety Board and Federal Aviation Administration indicates that the involved plane was a 1991 Beech A36 Bonanza, a single-engine fixed-wing aircraft.
The plane was also registered to Plane Haven LLC, based in Kalispell, Montana.
Furthermore, the family of Porter expressed their profound grief over the loss of their father. After their mother’s COVID-19 passing in January 2022, Porter had started a relationship with Rust, as reported by KHL-TV.
Porter’s son, Shaun, also established a GoFundMe page to finance his father’s funeral and facilitate his transportation from California to Utah for burial alongside his late spouse.
While the sheriff’s office is conducting the coroner’s investigation, the FAA and the NTSB are actively looking into the circumstances that led to this Covelo plane crash.
