A Rialto man was arrested on Tuesday after police discovered he struck a pedestrian in a hit-and-run collision.
The authorities identified the pedestrian as 37-year-old DeAngelo Banks from Fontana.
According to the Rialto Police Department, the authorities discovered the accident when a Rialto Police Department officer, driving eastbound on Rialto Avenue near Cactus Avenue at approximately 4:37 a.m. on Sunday, encountered an unknown object on the road.
Upon closer inspection, the officer determined that the object was a lifeless pedestrian at the 800 block of West Rialto Avenue.
The California Highway Patrol collaborated with the Rialto PD for separate investigations that pointed to Banks having been struck and fatally injured by at least one vehicle before the officer’s encounter.
Furthermore, surveillance footage from nearby properties showed a gray 2003 Ford Expedition suspect vehicle traveling eastbound on Rialto Avenue toward Banks. The footage reveals the car struck the pedestrian walking along the traffic lanes.
Authorities later successfully located the vehicle in the 500 block of Riverside Avenue on Tuesday afternoon, where Bryan Perez, a 23-year-old resident of Rialto, entered and drove the car.
Moreover, police discovered that Perez was driving without a valid license. Authorities then took Perez into custody as a suspect in the hit-and-run incident leading to Banks’ tragic death.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Crime Lab later took the gray Ford Expedition for examination.
