Two Employees, One from CHP, Sustained Major Injuries in El Cajon Pedestrian Crash
San Diego, CA (November 18, 2022) – Two employees, one from California Highway Patrol and another from a private trucking company, were involved in an El Cajon pedestrian crash while conducting a commercial vehicle safety inspection. According to FOX 5 San Diego, the crash occurred on Friday around 10:10 am.
Two employees suffered major injuries in an El Cajon pedestrian crash after being struck by a vehicle while conducting a safety inspection on Olde Highway 80.
According to a news release from California Highway Patrol, two employees, including one of their own, sustained major injuries in a pedestrian crash on Olde Highway 80 in El Cajon.
One of the two employees involved is a 57-year-old California Highway Patrol employee. The other employee was identified as Timothy Mattison of Fallbrook, a trucking company representative.
Responding officers took them to Sharp Memorial Hospital due to major injuries.
Authorities said that the two employees were conducting a scheduled commercial vehicle safety inspection on a wide shoulder of the roadway when they were struck by a vehicle.
The other vehicle being inspected was also hit in the crash.
The driver, later identified as Hector Ramos, reportedly remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.
Authorities are yet to determine the factors that led to the crash.
