El Cajon Wrong-Way Crash Left Driver Fatal and Toddler Severely Injured After Vehicle Struck Concrete Wall
El Cajon, CA (January 30, 2024) – An El Cajon wrong-way crash killed a driver and severely injured a toddler after a vehicle hit a concrete wall and launched off the freeway. According to the Times of San Diego, the crash occurred around 7:30 p.m. on Sunday.

An El Cajon wrong-way crash on Interstate 8 resulted in the death of the unidentified driver and severe injuries to a toddler in another vehicle.
According to California Highway Patrol Officer Jared Grieshaber, the driver was traveling east on the westbound side of the freeway near El Cajon Valley High School when the 2017 Chevrolet Silverado veered off the roadway, striking a concrete guardrail wall.
The pickup truck then continued its course across a center median, colliding with another barrier on the west side of Second Street.
As a result, the pickup was engulfed in flames and crashed onto a sidewalk on the east side of Second Street. Despite bystanders’ rescue attempts, the driver succumbed to fatal injuries.
The impact also caused debris to hit several vehicles on the street, injuring a 17-month-old child in one of them.
Paramedics then rushed the injured child to Rady Children’s Hospital in San Diego for the treatment of severe but non-life-threatening injuries.
