An Encino car crash killed one passenger and injured two others after a 14-year-old girl driving the vehicle hit a light pole.
An Encino car crash left a passenger fatal and two other individuals injured after a 14-year-old girl driving the vehicle struck a light pole.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the catastrophic incident occurred at the intersection of Balboa and Ventura Boulevard around midnight when officers noticed a Toyota Camry being driven without its lights on. Despite attempting to initiate a traffic stop, the driver, a 14-year-old girl, refused to comply.
When they tried to signal the vehicle to stop, it accelerated away instead. Since the only offense observed was a minor infraction, officers chose not to initiate a pursuit.
However, they maintained visual contact with the Camry and witnessed it turning onto Ventura Boulevard in an eastbound direction.
Minutes later, the vehicle was spotted again, just a few blocks away, emitting smoke following a solo vehicle crash.
Inside the vehicle were three passengers, all teenage girls: the 14-year-old driver, an 18-year-old in the passenger seat, and a 16-year-old in the backseat.
As emergency responders arrived, they found the vehicle engulfed in flames. Swift action by the police allowed them to extract the two front passengers by breaking the windows of the car.
Unfortunately, the intensity of the flames prevented officers from rescuing the third passenger, who was trapped inside the vehicle and succumbed to their injuries at the scene.
Moreover, the identities of the victims have not been disclosed at this time as authorities work to notify their families.
It remains uncertain what additional circumstances contributed to this Encino car crash or whether the driver will be subject to legal charges. Authorities have stated that the driver exhibited no signs of impairment during the evaluation conducted at the hospital.
J&M Tip: In a car accident caused by a teen driver, the parent or guardian may be responsible for the damages of the crash. However, this depends on the circumstances of the case. It is best to contact a lawyer to know your legal options.
