Escondido DUI Crash Killed 13-Year-Old Passenger and Injured Several Others, Driver Arrested
Escondido, CA (April 29, 2024) – An Escondido DUI crash left a 13-year-old passenger dead and multiple others injured. Police also arrested the driver suspected of DUI. According to ABC 10 News San Diego, the police responded to the crash shortly before 10:00 p.m. on Saturday.

An Escondido DUI crash on Saturday led to the death of a 13-year-old passenger and injuries to multiple others.
Authorities also arrested 20-year-old Alexander Tito Oroz on suspicion of DUI.
Escondido Police Department officials reported that authorities responded to a two-vehicle collision at North Broadway and Country Club Lane, finding multiple injured individuals at the scene.
A 13-year-old, critically injured, was rushed to Palomar Medical Center but succumbed to injuries. Additionally, responders took a man to Sharp Memorial Hospital and a woman to Scripps La Jolla Hospital.
Moreover, alcohol is suspected as a contributing factor, with Alexander Tito Oroz, who was treated at Tri-City Hospital, identified as one of the drivers involved. Police booked him in Vista jail for felony DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter charges.
Lt. Damian Jackson also revealed the deceased 13-year-old was a passenger in Oroz’s vehicle. The victim’s identity remains undisclosed. However, a GoFundMe page set up by his mother indicated his identity as Rodrigo David Tapia Jr, known as Junior Tapia.
Furthermore, Escondido Police’s Traffic Division is investigating. Witnesses or those with information may contact Escondido Police Collision Investigator Officer Paul Smyth at (760) 839-4423.
