Evelin Salas Melgoza Identified as Fatality in Suspected DUI Accident in West Covina of Los Angeles County, CA
West Covina, CA (April 30, 2022) – Evelin Salas Melgoza (22) was identified as a fatality in a multi-vehicle crash on the San Bernardino (10) Freeway in West Covina of Los Angeles County. According to FOX 11, the incident happened at around 12:02 am on Wednesday (April 27).
Evelin Salas Melgoza died in a suspected DUI accident, which caused a vehicle fire.
According to authorities, Melgoza drove a 2019 Nissan Sentra on the no. 1 lane. Then, she stopped her Sentra because of heavy traffic. Another vehicle, a 2007 Ford F-350 driven by Rancho Cucamonga, also stopped in the no. 2 lane. Then, Noe L. Manzanarez (19) drove in his 2002 Toyota Camry at a high and unsafe speed, crashing into the Sentra. The impact also caused another vehicle to collide with the pickup truck.
According to the coroner, as shared on FOX 11, Melgoza died because of “combined effects of blunt force trauma, inhalation of products of combustion, and thermal burns.” Responders pronounced her dead at the scene.
Meanwhile, Manzanarez sustained minor injuries. Also, authorities arrested him for suspected DUI. California Highway Patrol Officer D. Porter shared with FOX 11, “alcohol is suspected to be a factor in this collision.”
