The California Highway Patrol responded to a fatal car crash in Stanislaus County.
The Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office identified the fatality as 41-year-old Francisco Martinez of Modesto.
Martinez reportedly ran away from the crash scene, ripped off a fence plank of a backyard, and ultimately collapsed. Authorities then pronounced him deceased at the scene.
According to CHP Officer Aaron Norseen, a Jeep struck into a mailbox and a fence on Church Street, causing minimal damage.
After causing the damage, the man fled the scene, and the jeep was found unoccupied west of the roadway.
Norseen also mentioned that around 25 minutes later, a woman contacted 911 to report a man leaping over her fence and entering her yard. The woman’s neighbor subsequently reached the police, noting that a man had ripped off a fence plank, entered his backyard, and collapsed.
Moreover, an autopsy will be required to ascertain if Martinez died due to the crash or a medical issue. Authorities are also investigating if alcohol or drugs have played a role in this Empire car crash.
