Montgomery Creek, CA (August 10, 2023) – Gary Eugene Smith (75) of Modoc County succumbed to fatal injuries in an Eastern Shasta County crash. According to KRCR, the crash occurred around 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
Gary Eugene Smith succumbed to fatal injuries in an Eastern Shasta County crash along the highway near Fenders Ferry Road in Montgomery Creek.
The Shasta County Coroner’s Office revealed the identity of a man killed in a crash along Highway 299 east of Redding.
The authorities identified the fatality as 75-year-old Gary Eugene Smith from Modoc County.
According to the California Highway Patrol, Smith inexplicably made a sudden rightward maneuver and veered onto the south shoulder.
Officers state that the right side of Smith’s 2003 GMC 1500 made contact with a tree on an embankment, resulting in a sideswipe, before ultimately colliding with another tree.
Unfortunately, Gary Eugene Smith was pronounced dead at the scene.
