Six people sustained minor to major injuries in a Highway 101 multi-car crash. Two more single-vehicle collisions followed.
The California Highway Patrol’s Santa Barbara office reported a three-vehicle accident north of Carrillo Street.
As a result, six people, two of whom had significant injuries, were taken to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital for immediate attention.
Further, two additional single-vehicle collisions occurred in the same area shortly after the first incident.
According to CHP, these crashes resulted from debris from the initial collision.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported from these subsequent accidents.
Consequently, this unfortunate series of events led to the temporary closure of the second and third southbound lanes and the Carrillo exit until 4:10 a.m.
Repairs to the guardrail necessitated the closure of the third lane until 12:40 p.m.
Neither alcohol nor drugs have been considered factors in any of the accidents. Despite this, the crashes remain under investigation.
CHP Santa Barbara Area office urges any uncontacted witnesses of these accidents to reach out at 805-967-1234.
J&M Tip: The carelessness of one or more people can trigger a chain reaction, leading to multiple vehicle accidents. Therefore, anyone suffering injuries in such circumstances should promptly get in touch with an auto accident attorney.

More About Car Accident Liability
Various circumstances of the car accident can pinpoint the liability of damages. In some instances, thorough investigations can reveal careless behavior. This can include the simple act of recklessly turning or cutting in front of another vehicle. In terms of determining who is at fault for an accident, this can be defined by common law. Any Sacramento or Los Angeles car accident lawyer recognizes that fault has four basic levels:
- Negligence
- Recklessness (wanton conduct)
- Intentional misconduct
- Strict liability
However, different state laws can have variations of applicable traffic laws. For example, in some states, multiple drivers can be liable for an accident. This is why thorough investigations are important after a car accident. Having a strong case showing the liability of the at-fault party can help guarantee your compensation. Likewise, a car crash attorney can also help you determine all your options, so you can fully recover from the accident. Learn more about car accident lawyers in California here.
