Castella, CA (October 7, 2023) – An Interstate 5 hit-and-run crash severely injured a good samaritan after helping crash victims southbound I-5, south of Sweetbrier Avenue. According to ABC 7 KRCR, the accident occurred after 5:30 a.m. on Friday.

According to the California Highway Patrol office in Mount Shasta, the driver of a 2019 Toyota Highlander, identified as “Mr. John,” veered off the road, collided with a tree, and rolled over before coming to a stop in the southbound lanes of I-5.
The tree then fell onto the southbound lanes.
Soon after the crash, another driver, “Mr. Peterson,” witnessed the incident and pulled over to help those inside the Highlander.
Consequently, a 2002 Ford Ranger driver, identified as “Mr. McClure,” was traveling southbound on I-5 and approaching the crash area.
He failed to avoid colliding with the fallen tree obstructing the southbound lanes, hitting Mr. Peterson and the other individuals involved in this Interstate 5 hit-and-run crash.
Responders then took them to Mercy Medical Center in Mount Shasta with minor injuries.
In addition, they brought Mr. Peterson to Mercy Medical Center in Redding with severe injuries after being struck by the fleeing driver.
Moreover, CHP is actively investigating this Interstate 5 hit-and-run crash and is seeking information from witnesses or anyone with knowledge of the hit-and-run driver.
