James Johnson Fatally Struck by Hit-and-Run Driver in Santa Cruz
Santa Cruz, CA (September 12, 2022) – James Johnson (69) of Santa Cruz was identified as the fatality in a hit-and-run crash on Capitola Road in Santa Cruz. According to KSBW, the crash happened around 10:10 pm on Sunday.
James Johnson was in a motorized wheelchair when a hit-and-run driver struck him on Capitola Road in Santa Cruz.
The California Highway Patrol reported a fatal hit-and-run crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian in a motorized wheelchair on Capitola Road in Santa Cruz.
Responding personnel were able to take the victim to Natividad Medical Center. Unfortunately, the victim later succumbed to his injuries. He was identified as James Johnson of Santa Cruz.
According to authorities, Johnson was crossing Capitola Road in a motorized wheelchair when a vehicle struck him. The driver reportedly fled the scene and abandoned their vehicle nearby.
Authorities were able to identify the driver as Jessica Thompson. She was later arrested for felony DUI, vehicle manslaughter, and hit-and-run.
