Fresno County, CA (September 27, 2023) – James Mattos (69) of Fresno succumbed to fatal injuries while another sustained major injuries in a rural Fresno County crash. According to the Fresno Bee, the crash happened around 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday.

The California Highway Patrol responded to a fatal collision north of Caruthers. According to CHP spokesperson Mike Salas, the accident occurred when a Nissan Altima and a GMC truck collided.
Consequently, this sudden impact launched both vehicles into an adjoining orchard.
The impact was so severe that it caused one of the vehicles to overturn.
Salas verified at least one fatality from the crash. Meanwhile, a helicopter was promptly summoned for transfer for the other injured driver.
