The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department confirmed that the vehicle collided with a horse that had strayed onto Van Buren Boulevard, approximately 1000 feet north of 56th Street.
Despite immediate medical attention, Jennifer Smith succumbed to her injuries just moments later, according to the coroner’s report.
Meanwhile, Sgt. Ignacio Robles said that the horse involved in this Jurupa Valley car accident also died.
According to a spokesperson from Cal Fire, the horse had somehow escaped from its shelter and wandered onto the roadway. The animal was not carrying a rider at the time of the incident.
