San Diego, CA (January 26, 2023) – Three people sustained serious burn injuries in a Kearny Mesa propane tank explosion at a catering event in San Diego. According to The San Diego Union-Tribute, the incident was reported around 12:45 pm.
Three people were injured, two of them had severe burn injuries, in a Kearny Mesa propane tank explosion at a catering event in San Diego.
Fire officials responded to reports of a Kearny Mesa propane tank explosion at a catering event at a transportation and defense company on Balboa Avenue.
Two of the catering company employees reportedly suffered severe burn injuries. They were transported to UC San Diego’s Burn Center.
A third person also sustained injuries but refused to be taken to a hospital.
According to San Diego Fire-Rescue Battalion Chief Tommy Charpentier, a food catering company held a lunch service at the company then one of their 5-gallon propane tanks exploded.
A hazardous materials crew later arrived to assess the propane tanks in the area. They also safely disposed of the damaged propane tank that caused the incident.
