La Quinta, CA (May 15, 2024) – Maria Reyes (33) of La Quinta, Katherine Vogts (47) of Palm Desert, and Brandt Celli (26) of Indio succumbed to fatal injuries after a La Quinta crash on Highway 111. According to the Desert Sun, the crash occurred around 9:19 p.m. on Tuesday.
A La Quinta crash on Highway 111 involving a vehicle and two motorcycles killed Maria Reyes, Katherine Vogts and Brandt Celli.
A La Quinta crash claimed the lives of three, identified as 33-year-old Maria Reyes of La Quinta, 47-year-old Katherine Vogts of Palm Desert, and 26-year-old Brandt Celli of Indio, as confirmed by the Riverside County Coroner’s Bureau.
Sgt. Deirdre Vickers reported that deputies responded to Highway 111 and Simon Drive at 9:19 p.m. Tuesday.
Investigators determined that the first crash involved a motorcycle traveling eastbound on Highway 111 that struck a pedestrian crossing the roadway. The impact ejected the motorcycle driver, and both the motorcyclist and pedestrian died. The motorcycle ended up in the westbound lanes of Highway 111.
The second crash occurred when a white Chevy pickup traveling westbound struck the motorcycle still in the roadway. This collision caused the Chevy to veer into the median, hitting two people aiding the motorcyclist.
Unfortunately, one of these good Samaritans died from the impact, while respondents took the other to the hospital with significant injuries.
Meanwhile, the pickup driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Authorities do not believe alcohol or drugs were factors in this La Quinta crash but have not yet concluded who is at fault.
Moreover, a GoFundMe page has been set up to support the funeral and burial expenses of Katherine Vogts, who rendered aid at the scene.
As of 7:45 a.m. Wednesday, Highway 111 and Simon Drive remained closed near the crash site.
J&M Tip: Drivers must anticipate risks when sharing the road. In case a driver causes a collision with stationary vehicles for emergencies, they may be responsible for the damages. However, this depends on the circumstances. Contact a car accident lawyer to learn more.

More About Motorcycle Accident Liability
Motorcycle accidents, such as the case of Maria Reyes, Katherine Vogts and Brandt Celli in this La Quinta crash, usually cause more severe damage than other auto accidents. Motorcyclists are prone to sustaining major injuries because they are more exposed. Also, motorcycles are lighter and don’t provide much protection. - Compact and less visible on the road
- Loss of control due to road debris
- Motorcyclists are exposed to road and other vehicles
- Prone to wobbling
- Unskilled motorcyclists who don’t have proper licenses
However, motorcycle accident liability always falls on the negligent driver. Most of the time, both the motorcyclist and the other vehicle’s driver can be at fault.
