Linda Marie Hufnagel succumbed to fatal injuries after a Sacramento I-5 crash involving three vehicles on Labor Day.
A fatal Sacramento I-5 crash occurred in the early hours of Labor Day, resulting in the untimely death of a woman.
The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office revealed the woman’s identity as Linda Marie Hufnagel, a 53-year-old resident of Sacramento.
According to California Highway Patrol North Sacramento spokesman Officer Justin Fetterly, Hufnagel was heading southbound on I-5 near the transition to Interstate 80. She swerved her vehicle for unknown reasons and collided with a stationary U-Haul on the right shoulder due to a mechanical issue.
Subsequently, the Mazda driven by Hufnagel re-entered the roadway but became disabled, leading to a collision with a Toyota Tacoma.
Unfortunately, she succumbed to her injuries due to the crash’s impact.
Meanwhile, the U-Haul driver reported experiencing pain, while the Tacoma driver sustained minor injuries. Paramedics then transported both individuals to a local hospital for medical evaluation and treatment.
As of Tuesday afternoon, the cause of this Sacramento I-5 crash remained under investigation, with authorities yet to determine if alcohol played a role in the incident.
The collision caused debris to scatter across the roadway, leading to lane closures. However, law enforcement has since reopened the affected lanes, allowing traffic to resume its normal flow.
J&M Tip: When involved in a collision, it is crucial to call 911 to respond to the crash swiftly. Failure to do so may lead to further damage and casualties.

More About Car Accident Liability
Various circumstances of the car accident can pinpoint the liability of damages. In some instances, thorough investigations can reveal careless behavior. Any Sacramento or Los Angeles car accident lawyer recognizes that fault has four basic levels:
- Negligence
- Recklessness (wanton conduct)
- Intentional misconduct
- Strict liability
However, different state laws can have variations of applicable traffic laws. For example, in some states, multiple drivers can be liable for an accident.
