Types of Compensation You Can Get After a Long Beach Hit-and-Run
Victims often think that compensation for the damages means covering for the medical bills and vehicle damage costs. However, this only scratches the surface of what’s available to you following a hit-and-run crash. Depending on the circumstances of your accident, you may receive compensation for the following damages.
1. Economic damages cover financial losses with receipts and documented evidence, including:
- Medical expenses
- Property damage costs
- Lost wages
- Future income loss
- Out-of-pocket expenses
2. Non-economic damages involve intangible losses from the accident, such as:
- Pain and suffering
- Emotional distress
- Loss of companionship
- Diminished quality of life
- Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
3. Punitive damages may be awarded in cases of extreme recklessness, intentional misconduct, or malice by the at-fault party.
While economic damages are quantifiable through evidence, assessing non-economic losses requires the expertise of a personal injury attorney. A skilled hit-and-run accident lawyer can evaluate these intangible losses, maximize compensation, and determine eligibility for punitive damages.
