Madera County, CA (February 28, 2024) – A Madera County crash killed eight individuals, namely Fidel Filomeno Ojeda (34), Pedro Hernandez Ojeda (35), Roberto Banuelos Flores (57), Hector Manuel Orozco Ordonez (34) of Jalisco, Mexico, Juvenal Jacobo Talavera (24) of Michoacan, Mexico, Alfredo Sanchez Morales (30) of Guerrero, Mexico, Victor Hernandez Cirilo (30) of Guerrero, Mexico and Robert Jerry Kovar (78) of Auberry. According to The Fresno Bee, the crash occurred just 6:00 a.m. on Friday.

The Madera County Sheriff’s Office identified the victims on Wednesday as:
- Fidel Filomeno Ojeda, 34
- Pedro Hernandez Ojeda, 35
- Roberto Banuelos Flores, 57
- Hector Manuel Orozco Ordonez, 34, of Jalisco, Mexico
- Juvenal Jacobo Talavera, 24, of Michoacan, Mexico
- Alfredo Sanchez Morales, 30, of Guerrero, Mexico
- Victor Hernandez Cirilo, 30, of Guerrero, Mexico
- Robert Jerry Kovar, 78, of Auberry
The fatal crash occurred along Avenue 7 near Road 22 when an eastbound Chevrolet truck collided with a westbound GMC van carrying eight farmworkers from Kerman who were en route to work.
Unfortunately, seven of the workers and the driver of the truck succumbed to fatal injuries at the scene of this Madera County crash.
Meanwhile, the sole survivor, Benito Perez, 33, is currently in stable condition and recovering at Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno.
Moreover, the families affected by the tragedy are working with FUERZA, an advocacy group in Kerman, and the Consulate of Mexico to repatriate the bodies of those who died to their home states in Mexico. FUERZA is also organizing a vigil in Kerman to honor the victims, with further details yet to be determined.
The Kerman community also supported the victims’ families and organized various fundraisers and sales of Mexican food. An upcoming event planned for this weekend aims to raise funds for all of the victims of this Madera County crash.
