Manuel Camacho Jr. died at the scene of a Chatsworth truck crash after a flying lumber from another truck impaled him.
Manuel Camacho Jr., a 23-year-old truck driver, died at the scene of a Chatsworth truck crash on Monday, as confirmed by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner.
A multi-vehicle collision occurred on the 118 close to Topanga Canyon Boulevard, where a lumber from the flatbed truck penetrated the windshield of the box truck, causing injuries to the driver.
The sole occupant of the box truck, identified as Manuel Camacho Jr., was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Meanwhile, authorities transported the driver of the lumber truck to a local hospital with moderate injuries.
Moreover, an SUV was part of the incident, colliding with the back of the box truck after its involvement with the flatbed. Fortunately, no significant injuries were reported in the SUV.
While this Chatsworth truck crash is still under investigation, initial indications from CHP officials suggest that the speed of the box truck may have played a role.
CHP officers from the commercial division were also dispatched to examine whether the lumber truck complied with regulations mandating the marking of items protruding 4 feet or more from the rear of a vehicle with a red or orange flag.
