According to the California Highway Patrol, a gray Honda CR-V, occupied by an adult driver and two children, left the roadway and struck a tree.
Unfortunately, a 5-year-old passenger sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene.
Meanwhile, the driver sustained moderate injuries.
Additionally, an 11-year-old passenger sustained significant, life-threatening injuries.
Responders then took the 11-year-old vehicle occupant and the driver to the hospital.
Upon investigation, it was determined that the 5-year-old passenger was not properly restrained in a child seat.
CHP officers went to the hospital and arrested the driver on suspicion of DUI and manslaughter.
