Melchor Mendoza Sustained Fatal Injuries in a Fire Vehicle Pedestrian Crash in Clovis
Clovis, CA (July 6, 2023) – Melchor Mendoza (62) succumbed to fatal injuries sustained in a fire vehicle pedestrian crash on Clovis Avenue. According to ABC30, the accident occurred around 9 p.m. on Tuesday.
Melchor Mendoza succumbed to his injuries after being struck by a Clovis Fire Department Vehicle near Barstow Avenue.
The California Highway Patrol reported the fatality in a fire vehicle pedestrian crash involving a man on foot and a Clovis Fire Department Ford F250, leaving the pedestrian with life-threatening injuries.
The authorities identified the fatality as 62-year-old Melchor Mendoza of Clovis.
According to the authorities, the fire vehicle was heading south on Clovis Avenue to respond to an emergency call when it struck a man on foot.
The fatal victim and a woman left a minimart and walked towards the crosswalk on the same avenue. While the woman was able to stop after noticing the approaching fire vehicle, Mendoza failed to do so.
The supervisor in the emergency vehicle then performed lifesaving efforts. However, the pedestrian succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Moreover, California Highway Patrol Officer Mike Salas stated that the Clovis Fire Department responded to the situation adhering to the rules and regulations, with all lights and sirens fully active.
Investigators suspect Mendoza was under the influence of alcohol, but they are awaiting a toxicology report.
Meanwhile, police are yet to release the name of the Clovis Fire Department supervisor involved in the accident.
