Minerva Camacho Killed in Pedestrian Crash Near Almond Avenue in Sanger of Fresno County
Sanger, CA (March 31, 2022) – Minerva Camacho (65) died after saving her granddaughter from getting hit by a car in front of her Sanger home. According to ABC 30, Sanger police spotted the vehicle at around 6:00 pm on Tuesday. Moments later, a chase started and the SUV hit Camacho in front of her home near Almond Avenue.
According to reports, the Sanger police saw an SUV near Faller Avenue and 10th street with three male occupants. According to police, at least one of these occupants was a member of a gang. They approached the vehicle, but one of the men jumped, threw a handgun, ang got into the vehicle before driving away. This started a chase between police and the SUV.
At some point in the chase, the SUV dangerously turned right into Almond avenue and lost control of the vehicle. The SUV unintentionally went into the curb and Camacho’s driveway.
Minerva Camacho got into an accident after shoving her granddaughter away from the path of an SUV being chased by the Sanger police.
During this time, Camacho and her granddaughter stood in front of the home while checking for mail. Then, Camacho shoved her granddaughter away from the vehicle’s path. However, the vehicle pinned Camacho as it crashed into the home.
Camacho was taken to the hospital, but died later after hours of surgery. The suspects occupying the SUV fled from the scene. However, authorities were able to arrest two of the three suspects: Salmon Zaragoza (31) and Manuel Adrian Valencia (22).
Camacho’s neighbors felt shocked after the incident. Her neighbor Clinton Warner shared with ABC 30, “I didn’t know that she had been hit by a car or that a car had hit her house… It’s a crying shame, man.”
Warner said that he used to help Camacho take out her trash cans. Camacho would also invite him over to parties and bring him food from time to time.
Legal analyst Tony Capozzi said to ABC 30 that the suspects will bear responsibility for Camacho’s death. However, the police department might also be accountable. Capozzi said, “Will the attorney also sue the city of Sanger and the police department for pursuing a chase in a residential area knowing that something like this could have happened.”
The two arrested suspects face multiple charges, including Vehicular Manslaughter, Assault with a Deadly Weapon on a Police Officer, Felony Evading of a Police Officer resulting in death, and Child Endangerment.
